Robert E. Lee is an American--and Southern--legend. He was known for over a century as a man of high integrity, the embodiment of a Christian who loved his land and his people. Born of deeply rooted Virginians, Lee would attend West Point and serve with distinction in the Mexican-American War. A highly skilled and noble leader, Lee was asked to command the Union forces. He however knew that when the moment came to decide between his own Southerners and the Union, his duties and obligations were in the homeland of the South.
